Doctor Visit

We had a special treat today.  Cullen's mother and father came in and presented some information about bones and muscles to our science classes.  They both work in the medical field and were happy to share their knowledge with our students.  It was a great addition to the skeletal system lessons that Mrs. McFadden has been teaching over the past few days.

Nutrition Detectives

We had a visit just before the break from two employees of the YMCA.  They came to teach your children all about becoming Nutrition Detectives.  The students were taught how to read food labels and were encouraged to eat a "rainbow" of food each day.  They learned that the shorter the ingredient list, the better the food choice.  Of course, foods like fruits and vegetables are the best choice as they only contain one ingredient.

Fluency Check

The students really enjoyed our latest fluency activity.  Each student recorded his/her reading of a short passage and then listened to the recording through Google Drive.  Students then reflected upon their strengths and weaknesses.  We will complete the same activity in a few weeks for comparison.

Brag Board

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?  This past weekend I learned how to ski.  I am so proud of my new accomplishment that I am going to add a picture to our classroom Brag Board.  I know that the students have many things to be proud of as well, and our board is in need of some new material.  Please encourage your kiddos to bring in new pictures of their experiences for our board.  If you prefer, you can email the pictures to me and I will print them for you.  I hope you are all having a fabulous week.

Fraction Fun

Using Ed Emberley's Picture Pie as inspiration, the students showed off their understanding of fractions of a circle by creating these wonderful works of art.
