Sound Presentation

Many thanks to the TPA for funding this amazing learning opportunity for our students.  Mrs. Cooper, from the Children's Discovery Museum in Acton, came to our classroom with many hands-on activities in which the students could explore how sounds are made.  Key concepts of her presentation included the ideas that sound travels in waves, is caused by vibration and can have a high or low pitch.  Sounds can travel through solids, liquids and gases.  The students had a wonderful time exploring each sound center.

Mouse Houses

After reading The Mouse on the Motorcycle, I gave the students an optional challenge to create an appropriate mouse house for the main character, Ralph.  The students needed to use their knowledge of Ralph to create a home in which Ralph would like to live.  The students also had to write a letter to Ralph that would successfully persuade Ralph to come and live in this new home in Norfolk.  I was very impressed with the students' creativity and words of persuasion.  If I were Ralph, I would be happy to live in any of these homes.
