Wishing Day
I am currently reading Wishtree by Katherine Applegate to the students. The characters in the story participate in Wishing Day every year on May 1st. The characters decorate the community's wishtree, Red, with their personal wishes. We have created our own version of a wishtree in our classroom and have named it Little Red. Ask your child to tell you a little bit more about how trees, and other creatures, get their names in the story.

Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring the African Drummers today. The presentation was lively, engaging, and inclusive. Many of our students, as well as, their teachers were able to join in on the fun.
Immigration Suitcases
The students have done a phenomenal job presenting their projects to their classmates. The children have been so excited representing their heritage. We have quite an eclectic group.

Science In Action
Please ask your child to help you identify three darkling beetles in various stages of development. They should be able to show you a mealworm larvae, mealworm pupa and a darkling beetle in the photo below.

Extreme Weather
We wrapped up our non-fiction extreme weather unit this week. Students worked collaboratively to take notes on different subtopics, and report their findings on weather posters. Students were encouraged to use their knowledge of text features and display several examples on each poster. Features included maps, captions, headings and illustrations.
